Bio

A resident of Ghana, Mr. Apau holds Master of Philosophy in Geology from the University of Ghana and an MBA in General Management from the University of Cape Coast, Ghana.

Daniel has over 18 years of experience within the mineral exploration and development industry with extensive focus in Geology. His expertise spans from Exploration, Mining Geology as well as Resource Evaluation. Prior to joining Chirano in 2016, he spent over 9 years at Golden star Resources (a mid-tier gold producer) as the Chief Geologist of the Mine where he held increasing responsibilities and was part of the team that discovered the Wassa Underground deposit (+4Moz Deposit)

Daniel has played critical role in Exploration success at Chirano that has led to confirmation of extension of Mine Life year on year since 2016. He is a Member of Australian Institute of Geoscientist and a Member of Society of Economic Geologist. He is also a fellow at the West Africa Institute of Minning, Metallurgy and Petroleum.

My approach

I have a proven track record of managing teams and successfully identifying targets as well as working in mining geology, brownfields and near-mine environments, finding and adding mineable ore to both operating and exhausted projects. I have considerable exploration experience from grassroots to in-pit resource/reserve drilling, preparation of 3Ddata for resource modelling, resource model review and hand-off to operations.

  • In charge of Chirano’s exploration strategy and Resources for LOM extensions and incharge of the site Resources. The site Responsible Person for Resources
  • Successfully restarting Exploration program on the Chirano North Licence (Aboduobo) yielding significant intercept received within the period.

December 2021 – July 2022. Kinross Gold Corp, Chirano Gold Mine. Ghana.

Technical Manager; Exploration and Resources

  • I led the development and execution of Chirano’s exploration strategy with a view to increase resources and reserves.
  • I was the site Responsible Person incharge of the Mine YE AMRRS reporting for Resources
  • I worked closely with underground mining, surface operations, processing plant, geology and mine planning teams to optimize our gold production value stream and ensuring that associated risks and opportunities are well-managed.
  • I was responsible for developing exploration budget from target generation through to Minex programs.

February 2021 – November 2021. Kinross Gold Corp, Chirano Gold Mine. Ghana.

Superintendent- Exploration & Resources(Surface and Underground Operations)

  • I was accountable for all of the systems, people and processes for all exploration activities from target generation to handover of NI43-101 compliant resource models. I set standards, coordinate, and oversee the exploration programs and maintenance of the company’s concession by managing a team of employees and contractors to deliver all aspects of underground and surface exploration. Responsible for building and producing Resource models
  • I was the site Responsible Person incharge of the Mine YE AMRSS reporting for Resources
  • I Identified, evaluated, and recommend new exploration opportunities and ensure drill hole and exploration databases are validated and up to date so tehat geological interpretation can be adjusted as results are reported
  • I was incharge of the company’s Resource/Reserve extension and growth strategy. Implementing technical and geological decisions that led to reserve addition in excess of 500koz in a single year leading to LOM extension from 2022 to 2025. Kinross provides update on development projects and full-year 2020 exploration results - Kinross Gold Corporation (https://www.kinross.com/news-and-investors/news-releases/press-release-details)

August 2016 – Jan 2021. Kinross Gold Corp, Chirano Gold Mine. Ghana.

Senior Geologist-Resource Geology, Targeting and Brownfields Exploration (Surface and Underground Operations)

  • I identified gaps and implemented agreed upon solutions; making recommendations for opportunities that maximized efficiency and productivity of the site Brownfield team. I designed RC/DD holes for ore targeting in the exploration department and supervised Deep diamond drilling (surface and underground) programs to aid resource conversion and definition.
  • I provided geological and resource modeling support to operations and development projects. I built 3D models of geology, alteration and structures for interpretation using explicit and implicit modelling tools.
  • I implemented advanced resource modeler and remodeled Mamnao Project at Chirano leading to significant resource additions that led to open pit restart in 2019.
  • Detailed core structural logging, plotting and interpretation to aid targeting. Expert in structural interpretation in gold environment
  • Followed up on New Targets areas by mapping, rock sampling and trenching to propose initial test drilling. I successfully mapped various exploration target leading to further drill shoot extension

October 2015 – July 2016 Mineral Resource Development - Consultant. Ghana.

Principal Geologist- Consultant (MRD)

  • Provided geological advice to individuals and medium scale mining operations. Reviewed reports and provided guidance where necessary
  • Part of a team that re-modelled the Konongo deposit for investors consideration

Jan 2015 – October 2015 Golden Star, Wassa Operation. Ghana.

Chief Geologist

  • Responsible for all aspects of grade control, ensuring minimal ore losses and dilution, as well as maintaining appropriate stockpile strategy to ensure overall plant head grade and recovery would be maximized. I led a geology team that produced in excess of 200,000oz/year over two year period
